There's been a change at the top of Forbes' annual list of America's most expensive zip codes, writes Morgan Brennan. For the first time ever, a neighborhood in New York City tops the list.
10065 is the new 90210.
In Forbes' annual list of America's priciest zip codes, Manhattan's Upper East Side, between 60th and 69th streets, tops the list with a median asking price of $6.5 million. Compiled with the help of Altos Research, the analysis
"pulled pricing information for more than 22,000 ZIP codes across the
U.S. for June 28 to Sept. 28, drilling down to the 500 most expensive.
Altos calculated the median asking price for single-family homes and
condominiums, weighting the price based on the mix of local property
types," explains Brennan.
Last year's leader, Alpine, N.J., 07620, moved to No. 2, followed in third place by Atherton, Calif., 94027.
According to Brennan, "[h]ip downtown ‘hoods - where the market is limited in large part to
premium loft space and townhouses - clocked exceptionally high prices
for the second year in a row. The celebrity-studded West Village 10014
ZIP code ranked sixth, TriBeCa 10013 was 14th, and SoHo, 24th."
So where does Beverly Hills, 90210 rank? 12th, with a paltry median asking price of $3.6 million.
