Florida Suburb Seeks 'Suburban Downtown' Skyline

Sunrise, FL., is considering a minimum height of 8-12 storeys for medium and high-density residential buildings to create a 'suburban downtown' skyline.

" City commissioners tonight will get their first look at a proposal establishing minimum heights for medium- and high-density residential building in western Sunrise as part of a future suburban downtown. Pushing the skyline upward is part of the city's plan to develop the Sawgrass Mills area into a distinctive downtown on the edge of the Everglades, one filled with a mixture of high-rises, including Mizner Park-type boutiques, high-class office space and upscale apartments, according to city officials and design studies commissioned by the city."
