Today, the American Planning Association announced the 18 recipients of 2013 National Planning Excellence Awards and the 12 recipients of the first-ever National Planning Achievement Awards.
Selected by a jury headed by Ann C. Bagley, FAICP, the APA's National Planning Excellence and Achievement Awards "honor the best planning efforts and individuals that create communities of lasting value." Categories include the Daniel Burnham Award for a Comprehensive Plan, which was won by the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission's (NIRPC) 2040 Comprehensive Regional Plan (CRP), the National Planning Excellence Award for a Best Practice, which was won by the Philadelphia City Planning Commission's (PCPC) integrated Planning and Zoning Process, and the National Planning Excellence Award for a Planning Firm, which went to Boston-based Goody Clancy.
Individuals recognized for awards include Michael Osur, Deputy Director, Riverside (CA) County Department of Public Health, who won the Planning Advocate award and Ronald Shiffman, FAICP, who was recognized as a Planning Pioneer.
