A recommended capital building program would link St. Could and Minneapolis via commuter rail.
"The $120 million would be the state's share of a $286 million project to move people between the St. Cloud area and downtown Minneapolis using existing railroad tracks. The 82-mile rail project would have 11 boarding stations in a system that would be running by late 2005.It would connect with the Hiawatha light-rail line in downtown Minneapolis, allowing passengers to travel from St. Cloud to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and the Mall of America in Bloomington by rail."
