Des Plaines, IL, may rebuild part of its downtown with a "Main Street" feel.
"Des Plaines business leaders are endorsing an ambitious design for rebuilding a large portion of the city's downtown that reflects a new trend toward a so-called Main Street feel. After almost two years of talking, city leaders now have an idea of how the redevelopment, anchored by a 42,000-square-foot food store, would look and fit into an area just north of the Union Pacific train tracks and southeast of River Road. The two-phase project also includes new retail shops, 50 new condominiums and a new street connecting it all."
