From Industrial Tract To L.A. Urban Lake

Harvard graduate students offer a plan envisioning a lake, housing and parks for the worst idustrial areas along the Los Angeles River.

One of the most intractable industrial areas along the Los Angeles River is a largely inaccessible four-mile stretch running through Downtown, from the confluence with the Arroyo Seco to the city limits at Vernon. But a group of graduate students who live nearly 3,000 miles away have developed a vision for the blighted land that includes housing, parkland, an urban lake and a proposal to use old rail cars to connect this sector with river parks at Taylor Yard and the Cornfield in Chinatown... "What we have here," said [Friends of the Los Angeles River] President Lewis MacAdams, "is a blueprint for the urban core for decades to come."
