Joel Kotkin offers an analysis of which cities will be most damaged by the recession, and which cities will come through unscathed.
Joel Kotkin identifies several regions -- in Texas, Florida and Southern California -- that have been least impacted by the current slowdown:"What do these regions have in common? For the most part, they have diversified economies that are not tied to any one sector. Trade, diverse kinds of manufacturing, defense and high-end services often produce the most recession-resistant economies... As for the losers--those with negative pain indices--they are generally characterized as having a strong propensity for over-concentration in particular sectors."
