"As a professor of architectural technology, Tim Maldonado tries to find real-world projects for his students at New York City Technical College in Brooklyn. They have worked on a hospital floor for AIDS patients in Queens, a playground for children with Down syndrome on Long Island and buildings for the Con Edison site in Manhattan.But none of these projects has had quite the significance or poignancy of their most recent undertaking: designing a small church to replace one demolished on Sept. 11."
