The federal government helps pay for road projects across the country through taxes on gasoline and truck and tire sales...Transportation officials said the decline is primarily a result of a smaller-than-expected collection of taxes on gasoline as well as a drop in the sales of trucks and an increase in the amount of gasahol sold in the United States. Gasahol, a blend of gasoline and ethanol, is taxed at a lower rate than gasoline.News of the revenue estimates has stunned transportation and budget officials across the nation."
