Should D.C. Leave Parking to Developers?

AAA has been outspoken in their opposition to the parking reforms being debated in Washington D.C. For Matthew Iglesias, parking is a "privilege," not a right.

The District of Columbia is considering letting developers decide how much parking to build, and Matthew Iglesias takes issue with AAA's opposition to the plan.

"Parking spaces are useful, but land is scarce. Markets aren't good at everything, but balancing the supply of land with the demand for parking spaces is exactly the sort of thing they're much better at than top-down regulations," writes Iglesias, who believes that AAA is citing misleading statistics in their "totally insane" argument. Iglesias believes that non-drivers should not have to subsidize parking for those who drive.
