Mayors Offer 10 Steps To Bolster Security

The nation's mayors released 10-point blueprint for achieving homeland economic security.

U.S. mayors have unveiled a 10-point blueprint for homeland economicsecurity and plan to tour select cities to discuss the plan and buildsupport for it. Developed by the U.S. Conference of Mayors at theirrecentmeeting, the plan addresses transportation, travel, and tourismprograms, aswell as assistance and health care benefits for unemployed workers andthecreation of a homeland security block grant. Conference President MarcMorial, Mayor of New Orleans, said he will lead mayors on a "CitiesUniteAmerica" tour to draw attention to the successes and contributions ofcities. Highlights of the plan include additional protection forvulnerablesites and special public events; improved highway security throughinvestment in Intelligent Transportation Systems; immediate extension offederal unemployment benefits and expanded eligibility; health careassistance for unemployed workers; tourism support; anti-recession taxincentives; and small business support.
