Texas' Big, Bold Transportation Plan

Texas Governor Perry's transportation plan would create 4,000 miles of new transportation corridors across Texas for $175 billion.

"This is a plan for Texas to chew on and work on through tomorrow. And the day after that. It is big and bold. Mr. Perry proposes to build 4,000 miles of interconnected transportation corridors across the width and breadth of Texas at a cost of $175 billion. Each corridor would be as wide as three football fields (with end zones). Each would have six lanes of roads. Each would have six rail lines, some for carrying passengers and cargo at high speeds between big cities like Dallas and Houston, others for carrying them at lower speeds to smaller cities and rural areas. Each would have underground pipelines for petroleum, natural gas, water, electricity, hazardous wastes and telecommunications."
