Europe's historic landscapes provide many Americans their first opportunity to explore a city entirely on foot. A series of articles published recently in The New York Times provides intrepid pedestrians with countless ways to shake a leg, including: features on the pedestrian pleasures of AmsterdamParis, and Cannes; a family walk along the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela; walks off the beaten trail; and readers' stories of their favorite walks in Europe.

In an article, and accompanying slideshow, the paper's writers also share 9 ways to sample the continent's treasures on foot, including: a stroll through Berlin's canals, a walk across London's Millennium Bridge, and an excursion through the Promenade Plantée in Paris, the inspiration for New York City’s High Line.
