Featuring 150 Passivhaus dwelling units set amid wetlands and orchards, Architype's development in Herefordshire will also create jobs through an off-site but local prefabrication factory.
In conjunction with a Swedish businessman, Lars Carlsson, British architectural designers Architype, known for their Passivhaus projects, have undertaken a 20-acre development of 150 Passivhaus dwelling units. This is the largest Passivhaus development in the UK to date.
The houses will expend less than $200 per year on heating costs and feature a shallow design with wider frontage for more flexible space planning. They are set amid hedges, wetlands and swales and open space has been apportioned to orchards.
Archihaus, the local company under which the project is being proposed, is constructing a building factory in Herefordshire, which will prefabricate the building parts.
Jonathan Hines, Architype director, hopes that this development will serve as a benchmark for future developer-driven housing in the UK.
