Regional Agency To Coordinate Transit Issues Proposed

The state Legislature will begin to review a bill that would create a regional government agency that would deal with transportation and land use issues.

Local policy-makers are divided about the composition and ultimate role of the agency, but all agree that they prefer some type of regional agency than having state lawmakers make the decisions. The bill was drafted by the San Diego Association of Governments (http://www.sandag.cog.ca.us). A similar initiative by Sen. Steve Peace, D-El Cajon, died two years ago from lack of support.
