The impending launch of bike-share is sure to escalate the simmering tensions between New York's growing legion of cyclists and its hordes of pedestrians. L.V. Anderson and Aisha Harris propose a 10-point treaty for pedestrian-cyclist armistice.
"With 5,500 new bicycles about to hit the streets of New York," the growing tensions between cyclists and pedestrians "is liable to escalate to all-out warfare," say the authors. "Which is why we at Slate decided to convene a summit between a representative cyclist and a representative pedestrian to see if we could defuse tensions a bit."
What resulted was a 10-point peace treaty intended to smooth relations between the natural allies. It's comprised of five sensible rules for each side that are sure not to offend either camp (yeah right!).
