New York City isn't the only place full of overlooked urban refuges

"With summer in full bloom we thought it best to publish a map of some of San Francisco's best secret gardens," writes Curbed author Sally Kuchar. "On our map you'll find historic gardens being preserved on Alcatraz Island; a forest in the Tenderloin; a mini park rich with flowering foliage on an otherwise nondescript Sunnyside residential street, and more.
