Alternate Power Sources: Blowin' In The Wind

A report by three industry associations finds that wind power is the "fastest-growing energy source" in the world.

"Wind turbine installations worldwide soared by 45 percent, or 6,500 megawatts, in 2001, bringing global total windpower capacity to 24,000 MW, the European, American and Indian wind energy associations said in a statement.Europe, by far the most active in this area, increased its capacity by more than 35 percent...in 2001. [In the] United States capacity increased by more than 60 percent. India, the third-largest market, installed about 240 megawatts and exceeded 1,500 MW of total installed capacity."
