Police in the New Jersey town of Woodbury are going to extraordinary lengths to bust drivers for failing to yield to pedestrians.
"Police have been cracking down on drivers who don’t properly stop while a pedestrian is crossing Broad Street, using undercover officers posing as walkers in order to catch those who fail to yield," reports Jason Laday with the South Jersey Times. "During a four-hour operation on June 24 using five officers — including one 'decoy' acting as a pedestrian — police stopped 59 vehicles, issuing 42 tickets for failure to yield to pedestrians, as well as eight other motor vehicle violations."
"The initiative began when the police department received an offer from the state Division of Traffic and Highway Safety to train two officers on how to be decoy pedestrians last fall," he adds.
