Golf Course Plan Could Undermine Anti-Sprawl Efforts

Conversationists say a plan to build a golf course community would hurt efforts contain sprawl in Prince William County.

"[C]onservationists are decrying it as an assault on the region's first -- and mostly successful, so far -- effort to contain suburban sprawl.The proposal has been debated by residents and turned down by planners in this fast-growing county of 300,000. Supporters of the rural crescent, which was narrowly approved four years ago, fear that the Board of Supervisors could allow golf courses, thereby permitting more houses per acre as long as they were part of a golf course community."
