Across the country, immigrants are joining singles and the elderly in a continuing dispersal from cities, according to researchers at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. - fueling a massive change in the demographics of areas long associated with subdivisions and country clubs... The increase of immigrants in the suburbs is leading to conflicted feelings among environmentalists and planners, similar to the discussion about the link between sprawl and housing for low-income families.The source of that angst, say observers and immigrants who have settled in the Maynard-Acton-Hudson area, lies with two economic truths: The suburbs are where the jobs are; the more development is spread, the more opportunities there are to find affordable housing."
