Boston, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Detroit, and New York, have the highest percent of roads in poor condition.
Twenty-three percent of major roads in the nation's largest urban areashavesignificant deterioration and need immediate repair or reconstruction,according to a new report from the nonprofit transportation researchgroup,The Road Information Program (TRIP). "Rough Ride in the City: How PoorRoadConditions Increase Motorists' Costs," analyzed data for major urbanareasobtained from the Federal Highway Administration. The 10 urban areaswith apopulation of 1 million or more with the highest percentage of roads inpoorcondition are Boston, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Detroit, New York, SanJose,San Francisco-Oakland, Oklahoma City, Sacramento, and Grand Rapids,Michigan. The report found another 27 percent of the nation's urbanroads inmediocre condition and currently or soon in need of repairs.
