When the federal government shut down last week it took many agency websites along with it, depriving planners around the U.S. of resources they use daily. The blog Data Insights has put together a list of alternative sources for federal data.

Is your project stuck in neutral due to a lack of access to Census or American Community Survey data? Have no fear, there may be alternative websites that have the data you're looking for. With the help of friends and colleagues, Beth Jarosz has assembled a list of "helpful data resources, ranging from national to state and local downloads, to get you through any dark days with no federal data access..."
In addition to the alternative sources, she suggests: "You may also want to try the "Wayback Machine," an online archive of webpages. (It does work for the Census Bureau webpage as of September 2013.)"
