Affordable housing has emerged as a central issue in New York City's mayoral race, and as a topic of concern in cities from San Francisco to Washington D.C. "More than 8 in 10 New Yorkers want affordable housing to be a priority, a New York Times poll found. But federal housing funds are shrinking and people around the country are spending more than is recommended for home costs."
Eight experts -- including Edward Glaeser, of Harvard University, Denise Scott, managing director of New York’s Local Initiatives Support Corporation, and Congressman Keith Ellison -- offer their prescriptions for increasing affordable housing in New York and elsewhere.
