New York's Palladium Company dropped plans to build a $1 billion retail and enterainment complex in downtown San Jose, CA.
The project was the most ambitious redevelopment effort in the city's history, but "Palladium officials cited the lackluster economy as the key reason, while San Jose officials said they turned down the developer's request for a larger public subsidy for the sprawling project. When the plan was first announced 14 months ago, downtown San Jose was expected to boom along with the red-hot economy. But Kenneth Wong, a partner at Palladium, said the massive project cannot be built in the midst of a downturn."
