A dot-com millionaire turned new urbanist and the Atlanta-Journal Constitution debate the morality of neighborhood choice.
An editorial in the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution charges that "there are a lot of valid grounds on which to analyzeland-use planning choices. Efficiency, quality of life and impact on trafficare just a few. But morality is not on the list, and any policy discussion that begins with charges of immorality against some of the participants is bound to produce more anger than thoughtfulness." Charles Brewer, founder of the Internet service provider Mindspring, and now a new urbanist developer counters that "people should weigh the environmental and social consequences of their decisions about where and how to live as one factor, along with many other factors, as they make their decisions."
