Dot-Com Slowdown Speeds Up Bay Area Traffic

The collapse of the dot-coms in the Bay Area has eased traffic on the area's freeways. It is the biggest one-year decline in nearly a decade.

"The Valley Transportation Authority report, to be released later this week, is the first attempt at tabulating what many commuters have reported since the dot-com implosion -- far fewer cars on the road. Rush-hour tie-ups that just two years ago smothered every freeway and clogged dozens of intersections from pre-dawn to dusk have, in some cases, almost disappeared."
