At last week's fall meeting in Chicago, experts with the Urban Land Institute peered into their crystal ball to predict the trends that will guide the recovery of the real estate market over the next year.
Developed will the help of real estate developers, investors, lenders, servicers and builders, the Urban Land Institute's "Emerging Trends in Real Estate" forecast provides a peek at the investment and demographic trends that will drive the market in the near future. Among their predictions:
- Investment will flow to second-tier cities such as Boston, Dallas, Portland, and San Jose
- Job growth will determine the pace of the real estate recovery
- "Multi-family apartment building will wane"
- Suburban development will be centered around "more urban-minded projects"
