New Alameda Corridor Has Long History

Phineas T. Banning envisioned the Alameda Corridor 133 years ago. It is coming to fruition with Friday's opening.

Banning was known as the 'King of Transportation' and the 'Father of the Los Angeles Harbor.' He hauled freight and people up the 21-mile railway that he built to link the harbor to Los Angeles. Towns along the San Pedro & Los Angeles Railroad began to thrive. On Friday, a new $2.4-billion high-speed rail line will open along the new Alameda Corridor.
