To some, Playa Vista embodies urban planners' hopes for a new kind of community in a car-clogged city, where people can live, work and play without getting behind the wheel. To others it's simply too much development next to a sensitive wetland. It's also the focus of a debate over whether any project this size can deliver on Smart Growth promises.
