Regional Connector Transit Project in High Gear for Los Angeles

The Regional Connector, a light rail improvement project in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, is one of the closest watched transit projects in the country. The federal government recently allocated a $670 million grant for the project.

Laura J. Nelson reports on the details of a $670 million federal grant for the Regional Connector project in Los Angeles. The 1.9-mile underground light rail line will “seamlessly connect three of Los Angeles County's furthest-reaching light-rail lines.”

The project, which totals $1.36 billion, is expected to have a dramatic impact on the Metro system and transit overall in the region, drawing a projected 17,000 new riders to the system.

In a separate article, Steve Hymon mentions the significance of Los Angeles’ ongoing transit construction projects: “within the next calendar year, Metro could have an unprecedented five rail projects being built simultaneously that will add about 29 miles of rail to the existing 87-mile Metro Rail network.”
