Flint Mayor Dayne Walling used the occasion of his recent State of the City speech to call for a $70 million “war on blight” that would include the demolition of 6,000 buildings.
Dominic Adams reports on the city of Flint’s recently announced “war on blight,” which hinges on $70 million in funding the city’s political leadership will seek from the federal government.
The plan would target the city’s abandoned buildings for demolition as well as gathering a group of volunteers to care for other abandoned buildings.
"These abandoned buildings surrounding us are offering shelter for crime and drugs. This is not a new problem in Flint, but the scale of the challenge has pushed the threat level up and it is time for an all-out battle against blight,” said Mayor Walling during the speech.
