Downtown Atlanta sidewalks will now be patrolled by Segway-riding police officers.

Downtown sidewalks will appear to have been warped into the future Wednesday when Atlanta police and the Ambassador Force begin patrolling them on the gravity-befuddling two-wheeled Segway scooter.Pedestrians will finally see in person the machine that, according to the hype, will transform the world of transportation -- one patch of sidewalk at a time.
