Open Street Events Around the World

Alissa Walker writes for Gizmodo about nine open streets events from all over the world, even in a few cities famous for auto domination. “Although these interventions are usually temporary, open streets often lead to real-world change: These small-scale activations often help residents to envision a city designed to promote walking and biking year-round,” writes Walker.

Included in the number are events in Los Angeles and Atlanta—to name two famously car-centric American cities. Walker also mentions open street days in cities like Paris, Mexico City, and Tel-Aviv (although that last one is a slightly different take on the open streets phenomenon), among others.
