A research team at MIT Urban Studies and Planning, led by Susan Silberberg, released a paper examining “the interactions between placemaking, community participation, and the expanding ways communities are collaborating to make great public places.”
The Project for Public Spaces shares news of a white paper by a research team at MIT’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning. “The paper, Places in the Making, casts aside the idea of the monolithic expert, and argues clearly and cohesively for the importance of Placemaking as a vital part of community-building, rather than a fuzzy ‘extra.’”
Silberberg and her team use the term “virtuous cycle of Placemaking” to describe a planning process with multiple entry points and the removal of barriers to participation.
