Freeway-based Monorail Idea Gains In Seattle

"It started with a graduate student's thesis and grew into an idea with broader appeal -- why not build a monorail along Interstate 5 to carry commuters between North Seattle and Sea-Tac Airport and perhaps beyond? Apprentice architect Jeff Boone started the effort by completing a University of Washington master's thesis on the subject two years ago. He began researching I-5's impact on the city since its completion, and how its space might be better used.He soon came around to the monorail idea. It was a form of mass transit with a narrow footprint that he calculated could fit within the freeway right-of-way, potentially moving thousands of people and relieving congestion without displacing homes or businesses."
