After past attempts to redevelop the downtown of Michigan's third largest city failed, Warren's mayor believes that the city's downtown and civic center is ready to transform into a bustling urban environment. What will it take to make that happen?
"After roughly a decade of failed attempts, [Warren Mayor Jim] Fouts believes plans finally are falling into place to develop a bustling downtown in Michigan’s third-largest city," reports Christina Hall.
"In the next few months, Mayor Jim Fouts would like to reveal specific plans for some of those parcels in the city’s downtown — details he hopes will describe a five-star hotel, fashionable movie theater, high-class restaurant, nightclub and grocery store."
Mayor Fouts points to plans currently under review for a new Cadillac dealership, across from the existing General Motors Tech Center, as a potentially catalytic business for the neighborhood. Mayor Fouts says that the owner of the dealership, entrepreneur Greg Jackson, could become the "Dan Gilbert of Warren"—referring to the billionaire Dan Gilbert's influence in nearby Detroit.
