The "University village" development is one of large new projects in Chicago. It includes townhouses, dormitories, shops, and parks. Facades of old buildings are to be preserved.
"Most of the old buildings of Chicago's famous Maxwell Street market have been torn down to make way for a new 'village'...Preservationists fought to save the look of historic Maxwell Street, and they partly succeeded. The facades of 21 old buildings will be incorporated into the new development... The master plan for University Village calls for the 68-acre site to be developed with a mix of townhouses, midrise residences, dormitories, academic buildings, shops, restaurants, parking facilities and parks."
