"The $2.4 billion Alameda Corridor, a 20-mile freight rail expressway from the ports of Long Beach and San Pedro to transcontinental rail yards in Los Angeles, was 20 years in the planning...Similar solutions are needed nationwide. America's roadways are already saturated with big (and often intimidating) rigs, and no one anticipates many new roads. Trade and freight are growing at astounding rates. We desperately need rapid, reliable freight train service. Hundreds of billions of dollars must be invested in new track, upgraded track and grade separations to avoid accidents and gruesome traffic delays."
