For those curious about what a creative live/work community art center looks like, downtown Los Angeles offers a glimpse at one.

Clement Lau, a Los Angeles County planner, recently visited the Art Share LA, which provides artists with live/work lofts and offers spaces for classes, exhibitions, and events.

“I think as planners in L.A., we need to know more about organizations and facilities like Art Share because they clearly contribute to the quality of life in our communities.”

While statistics show that Los Angeles has more art venues and jobs than the national average, it lags when it comes to funding for the arts, writes Lau. He goes on to describe the history of Art Share LA and discusses the amenities that make it an ideal environmental for the creative.
