Checking-in with the Proliferation of Innovation Districts

Bruce Katz checks in with the fruits of the Brookings Institution's "innovation district" initiative, following its June report on the potential of such districts to generate population and economic growth.

After reintroducing the innovation districts concept, Katz lists the cities that have begun exploring or adopting policies for the implementation of innovation districts. Such efforts include Samsung leasing a six-story building in Manhattan, a Volkswagen plant outside Chattanooga, a newly created innovation district taskforce in Detroit, the formal recognition of Chicago's first innovation district, and the approval of the "Warm Springs Innovation District" in Fremont, California.
