Making Downtown 'Pedestrian-Oriented'

Tom Gustafson, a former speaker of Florida's House of Representatives, has secured $400,000 to study how to make downtown Ft. Lauderdale more suitable for pedestrians.

"The goal here is to make this area pedestrian-oriented," said Gustafson. He shies away from the words "pedestrian-friendly", a term that falls far short of what he wants to see. "Today the streets are designed for cars. We want to see the streets designed for pedestrians."
