The Mid Ohio Planning Commission (MORPC) is working with Columbus 2020, ULI Columbus, and planning firm Calthorpe and Associates to head up a new effort called insight2050 that will develop "objective analytical tools" to prepare for growth.
Brent Warren is providing thorough coverage of the insight2050 efforts, which recently shared its preliminary findings. Coverage includes an interview with MORPC Executive Director William Murdock and MORPC Director of Planning and Environment Kerstin Carr that provides insight into the insight2050 process and the hopes for the tools it will produce.
Warren also wrote a traditional article, published on Sunday, about the insight2050 planning effort. There Warren describes the planning problem confronted by insight2050 as a sprawl problem: "Preliminary findings from a new study paint a clear picture — if Columbus and its neighboring suburban jurisdictions continue to build housing and roads the way they always have, the region will sprawl an additional 480 square miles by 2050."
