A trio of natural gas providers is planning to build a 550-mile pipeline from West Virginia to North Carolina. The companies are hoping to secure approval for the project from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission by 2016.
"Dominion, Duke Energy, Piedmont Natural Gas and AGL Resources are combining to build and own the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, a $4.5 billion to $5 billion project that will provide Marcellus Shale natural gas along the Interstate 95 corridor [from West Virginia to North Carolina]." reports Paul J. Gough.
The 550-mile proposed pipeline would "carry at least 1.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas beginning in 2018."
"The pipeline will start in Harrison County, W.Va., at what Dominion said was an existing natural gas transmission facility and then travel through Virginia and North Carolina. There will be a 70-mile pipeline extension that will bring natural gas to the Norfolk and Virginia Beach, Va., region."
