"In the short run, discord in LA should be a recruiting opportunity for Phoenix. Beyond that, we can only wonder if this is the next big trend that starts on the West Coast and rolls east. With 476 miles in the city limits, Phoenix is a bit larger than LA. (Philadelphia is 136 square miles with a slightly larger population than Phoenix.) Like LA, Phoenix struggles with the costs and civic pathologies of sprawl, and it is increasingly divided into haves and have-nots."
