El Paso Launches 'Brio' Bus Rapid Transit Line

El Paso launched a bus rapid transit line known as the Brio, connecting the Mesa Transfer Center to Downtown El Paso.

"Sun Metro launched its new rapid transit system, the Brio, Monday [October 27], which city officials said is similar to a light rail system in other large cities," according to Sandra Ramirez. The first Brio line and station is the first of four.

Ramirez provides details about the experience of the Brio:

"The Brio stations are shaded, have a real-time arrival time, and offer free Wi-Fi. Gone are the days of carrying exact change to ride the bus. Tickets for a single ride, day, weekly, or monthly pass can be purchased at a vending machine at Brio bus stations. The machines accept cash, coins, or debit/credit cards."
"During peak hours, which are typically between 3 p.m. - 6 p.m., Brio buses will pick up passengers every ten minutes, and every 15 minutes during non-peak hours."
The Brio is coordinated with streetlights to improve travel times.
