A study published by the Brooking Institution finds varying results, depending on the neighborhood, for a study of the impact of gasoline prices on home values.
Adele Morris of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas has produced a study titled "Do Gasoline Prices Affect Residential Property Values?" [pdf] for Brookings. The first-of-its-kind study examines real estate transactions in metropolitan Las Vegas and surrounding areas in Clark County, Nevada. "The authors link 931,000 home transactions between 1976 and 2010 with gasoline prices to show that gas prices can indeed affect home values in neighborhoods differently," according to a press release announcing the study [pdf].
The researchers surmise that "gasoline prices do matter" in relation to the real estate market and home values.
