"Hawaii, Michigan, Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Florida, and Missouri are just a few of the 41 states with active plans to develop bioscience clusters, according to Battelle Memorial Institute and the State Science & Technology Institute. Challengers to Boston and San Diego are emerging. Yet up and coming regions will need at least four crucial ingredients: local universities with strong science curricula, venture capital, networking, and patience."
