After an initial failure of public approval, St. Petersburg went back to the drawing board to design new plans for an off-shore park on the historic St. Petersburg Pier.
"In Florida, St. Petersburg has just announced eight finalist designs for the city's proposed New St. Pete Pier, the latest iteration of the historic St. Petersburg Pier," reports Kriston Capps. "First built in 1889 as a railroad tressle, the city's pier has evolved several times over the last 125 years. The finalist designs under consideration are below."
The article includes renderings of all the finalist designs. Capps also details how in 2013, voters rejected the previous design proposal by Michael Maltzan Architecture. The new designs better preserve the "signature Inverted Pyramid design built back in 1973."
