To replace the retail and commercial space lost in the collapse of the World Trade Center towers, planner are looking to adjacent blocks.
"Planners had begun studying the use of up to 16 adjacent blocks to accommodate some of the 10 million square feet of office space and 450,000 square feet of retail space that had been at the trade center...additional land might be needed because as much as half of the site would probably be used for a memorial to victims of the attack, and any new office buildings there would probably be no taller than 60 stories."
